Beach Safety, Destin Dreamers Style

Beach Safety 🌊✨

Celebrating Life. Dreaming Fully Awake.

There’s nothing quite like that first walk onto our sugar-white sand — it’s the whole reason you’re here. We just want to make sure every beach day is a great one, so here’s what to know before you dive in.

🚩 Check the Flags, Then Dream Away

🟢
Green
Calm and clear — go make some memories.
🟡
Yellow
A little extra caution — keep an eye on the little ones.
🚩
Red
Strong surf and currents — stick to the shoreline.
🚩🚩
Double Red
Water’s closed for the day — trust us, save it for tomorrow.
🟣
Purple
Jellyfish in the area — maybe it’s a sandcastle kind of day.

Conditions can shift throughout the day, so it’s worth a quick check each time you head down. Look for the flags posted at the nearest public beach access.

🌊

If You Feel a Current Pull You Out

Stay calm — that’s the whole trick. Don’t fight directly against the current. Swim parallel to the shore until you’re free of it, then make your way back in. No panic, no fighting it — just an easy sideways swim.

A Few Easy Habits That Keep the Good Vibes Going

🦶
Try the “stingray shuffle” — a little foot-shuffle in shallow water keeps everyone comfortable.
☀️
Reapply that sunscreen every couple of hours; our Gulf sun is stronger than it feels.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
Keep an eye on kiddos and grandparents, especially when the sun’s at its peak.

Sharing the Beach With Our Sea Turtles

May through October is sea turtle nesting season here on the Emerald Coast. You may spot roped-off, marked nests along the dunes — please admire them from a distance and never step inside or move the markers. It’s a simple way to protect these amazing creatures and helps keep our beaches thriving for years to come. If you’re staying beachfront, keeping exterior lights off or turtle-friendly overnight also helps hatchlings find their way home safely.

💡 Good to Know

Much of our 30A shoreline doesn’t have lifeguards on duty, so a little awareness goes a long way. Keep your group together and take a quick look at conditions before you swim.

Now go enjoy the sand, the sunsets, and the salt air — that’s what dreaming fully awake is all about. 🌅
