Steps
Choose a registered boat (Rodeo lists them).
Fish during October 1–31.
Weigh in by 7 p.m. at AJ’s dock.
Private boat, pier, jetty, surf, kayak & SUP
Prefer to DIY? Register before you weigh—Rodeo requires private boats (and land-based/kayak/SUP anglers) to register at least 24 hours before presenting a fish.
Youth anglers: Dedicated junior divisions with encouraging prizes; kids who weigh a 1-lb+ fish earn a rod & reel and certificate.
Pro tip from Destin Dreamers: Keep your fishing license current if you’re not covered by a for-hire charter.
Where & When to Watch the Weigh-Ins
Head to AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar (116 Harbor Blvd) on the Boardwalk. The weighing stage runs 10 a.m.–7 p.m. daily. The golden hour crowd is electric as boats parade in at sunset.
Best viewing vantage points:
The AJ’s dock rail along the scales.
The HarborWalk Village boardwalk facing the harbor.
Upper decks at harbor restaurants if you’re dining during the last hour.
Shark Saturday highlights have included 300-plus-lb bull sharks in recent years—always a spectacle at the scales.
